Professional Biography

When I started college, I wasn't sure what I wanted to be.  I knew I liked science, so I chose to pursue a bachelor's in math, because I figured it would provide a good foundation for future learning.

I took a masters level theoretical computer science course and loved it, so I pursued a masters in computer science next.  During that pursuit, I worked with a team of researchers in medicine and technology who were applying machine learning algorithms to the task of segmenting MRIs of the brain.  My focus was on using neural networks and fuzzy instance-based learners.

Concurrently, I taught several math and computer science courses to humans, who I found far more intelligent than computers.  This inspired me to obtain a doctorate in instructional technology.

I love creating curriculum and experiences where I can share my passion for technology with others and learn from them as well.  I feel we learn best by doing, especially when creating with meaningful intent.

Outside the classroom, you'll find me enjoying time with my family (1 partner, 2 adult kids, 2 dogs, 2 granddogs, 3 grandcats) and students, hiking, biking, playing boardgames and puzzle games, working on puzzles, doing glass art, and sewing.
