Professional Biography

Barbara taught at Lane Community College for 44 years, from 1973-2016, She has performed in countless LCC productions and coordinated many faculty concerts.

Barbara started playing piano at age 5 in her native state of Montana. She received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Montana State, after which she taught at Wilsall, Montana, where she taught every music course imaginable, plus 7th and 8th grade English. She came to the UO in 1970, from which she obtained her Master of Music in Piano Performance and her Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education, Piano and Flute performance. She joined the music faculty at Lane in 1973. In 1981-1983 she took a break and attended the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where she earned another Master's degree in Musicology, specializing in Performance Practice.

During the 1980s, Barbara performed and studied in various Baroque academies, seminars and institutes and was a founding member of several early music ensembles, including Baroque Fare and the Oregon Baroque Ensemble.

In the 1994, Barbara joined the Eugene Chamber Singers to help her heal from cancer. In 2000 she joined the Eugene Opera chorus and has performed in most of their productions since then.

Barbara has also sung in Lane Summer Musical Theater's productions and continues to sing in the Eugene Symphony Chorus.

Barbara loves teaching at Lane and hopes to continue playing piano and singing. Music is her lifeblood!
